Suk-Ho Bang
President
Korea Information Society Development Institute(KISDI)
Seoul, Korea
Suk-Ho Bang was newly elected to lead the Korea Information Society Development Institute, a broadcasting & telecommunications policy research institute affiliated by the Korean government on September 10. Heading KISDI, President Bang is at the forefront of coping with the newly emerging trend of digital convergence, making and providing in-depth analysis and recommendations for policymakers and entrepreneurs in and out of Korea. The President, who made an invaluable contribution as one of the founding members of KISDI, now has a grand vision of expanding the institute to cover not only the ICT sector but the broadcasting and media ones.
Starting his career as a research fellow at KISDI twenty years ago, President Bang served as a member of Board of Governors at Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), Korea’s leading public services broadcaster, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. In addition, he, as a representative from the academic circle, co-chaired the Korea Association for Info-Media Law (KAFIL), a nationally acclaimed society made up of renowned judges as well as professors; and led the Cybercommunication Academic Society, an interdisciplinary group of academicians from a variety of fields. Moreover, the President participated in creating drafts of vital broadcasting and telecommunications articles and laws in Korea. Also, as a negotiator, he took part in the international trade and negotiations.
President Bang has several publications in Korean, which cover not only the broadcasting sector but the telecommunications one. The selected publications include Media Law (1995), an in-depth legal analysis of the media market, and Information & Telecommunications Law (2007).
Over the length of his career with a number of government agencies, media companies, and universities, President Bang has shared his rich and diverse experience as well as extensive and profound knowledge with public officials, journalists, and so forth, working as advisor, arbitration commissioner, and professor. His career path as well as notable achievements explains well how deeply he is interested in the broadcasting and telecommunications convergence, and, moreover, the global media industry.
Prior to joining KISDI, President Bang was a professor of law, Hongik University, Seoul, Korea. He is an American lawyer admitted to practice in Washington D.C. He received his J.D. as well as LL.M. from Duke University, North Carolina, USA. He received his LL.B. from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea.
