G@me Innovation

Edito

The video game industry is in a constant state of innovation: in the creation of development tools and content, their publication and distribution, and in the area of hardware… More significant still, innovation is an integral part of all the links in the value chain. These past few months have been rife with innovation in the area of content (Little Big Planet, MadWorld, World Of Goo, the host of titles coming out of console makers' virtual shops and from the Apple Store), in the different genres and segments (Casual Games, Serious Games), in the technologies being used (accelerometer, sensors, pointers, multi-point touch-screen), in the equipment (DSi, iPhone, Onlive, Gaikai, Zeebo), the business models and electronic distribution. The 8th annual Video Game Seminar will examine the relationship between video games and innovation by exploring a number of areas where it is particularly lively and intense.

Serious Gaming on the go!
The serious gaming sector is still in its infancy, little structured, disparate and not yet terribly coherent. But many continue to tout the potential for a wide selection of titles from the healthcare, defence, training and public safety sectors. With the French government’s recent launch of a call for projects aimed at stimulating the development of tools and titles that take advantage of technologies to emerge from video games for use in applications outside the realm of digital entertainment, it seems like a perfect time to take a closer look at this promising sector.

Game 2.0 or the era of User Generated Content
Content created by gamers is considered one of the chief growth areas for the video game sector in the coming years. All gamers are keen to be central players in their virtual adventure, to leave a trace of themselves that everyone else can see and use. This phenomenon can go so far as to encourage players to create their own games using easily accessible tools. This session will provide an opportunity to explore the potential of the Game 2.0 trend.
