1clip_editdata.mso" rel="Edit-Time-Data" />This year, DigiWorld Summit will provide an opportunity to discuss the following points:

Usage

  • Social Networks. What is the business model for a social network? What does it cost to run? What percentage of its revenue is generated by advertising and how much comes from the content providers it hosts? How many social networks can coexist? How and why are they cooperating with other sites and other platforms? What’s new with now mobility? What can we say about social networking in Europe?
  • Connected TV and Video over the top. Can TV really switch over to the Net? Who is investing in the millions of videos, which include a great many TV programmes, that are available online? What business models appear the most promising? How are Europe’s TV networks planning on holding onto their viewers, their programmes, their revenue and their brands?

Infrastructure

  • Is the Internet threatened by the upsurge in traffic? Who is investing in the infrastructure? Who are the newcomers in the backbone and CDN markets? What is the strategy of the major content aggregators? How have peering agreements between the players evolved? How is the issue of differentiated quality of service according to application being addressed? Which players are best prepared for cloud architecture?
  • Next Gen Access pipes/Funding fibre. What can be said about the current cost of deploying FTTH/FTTN technologies? Are we moving towards a lasting increase in capex? What pricing and service strategies are we seeing emerge in Europe? What contribution are public monies likely to make? What competition model appears to be taking hold? Will Europe manage to catch up to the frontrunner superfast broadband markets?
  • Next Gen Access pipes /Funding LTE. Why the urgency to invest in LTE? Will operators be increasing their spending? What degree of convergence can we expect between fixed and mobile ultra high-speed access? What type of segmentation in high-speed mobile access offers are we moving towards? What additional revenue can we expect to be generated by applications, M2M, etc.?

Policy

  • Is there an European way to talk about the Net Neutrality?
  •  Is there an European way to talk about the Future of the Internet? Despite its many assets, Europe has made a relatively meagre contribution to the innovations that are shaping the Internet of tomorrow. In which areas and through which strategy can Europe strengthen its leadership by becoming a key player in the Internet of the future?

Invited country

After having honoured Japan, South Korea, India, China and the United States, IDATE’s Summit will focus this year on the Internet’s role in Europe’s forward-looking strategies, and Europe’s role in the Internet of the future.

A unique place to understand the future of the Digital World

As in previous year, IDATE experts will introduce the sessions and seminars with their analysis of markets and player strategies. These analyses will be expanded upon and discussed by some 100 top-flight speakers from around the globe (industry heads, public authorities and academics) during keynote speeches, plenary sessions and specialized Executive Seminars.
