Eduardo Martínez Rivero heads the Antitrust Telecoms unit in the Competition Directorate-General of the European Commission.

Eduardo trained as a lawyer at the Universidad de Oviedo, where he graduated with honours in 1988 (Premio extraordinario de fin de carrera; Premio Francisco Beceña al mejor alumno de la Facultad de Derecho). He then followed European law studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, and after some private practice in a Brussels law firm joined the European civil service in 1991.

During more than two decades at the European Commission Eduardo has been involved in several policy areas, with a focus on Competition and on the Single Market. In addition to electronic communications, he has covered service sectors such as financial services and transport, as well as manufacturing industries.
