Video games in the digital age, Act 2
9:00am - 6:00pm
Le Corum, Einstein room
The video game sector is being shaped by the ongoing shift from physical to online distribution and play, which is being further amplified by the trends that make up the core focus of this 14th edition of our Summit:
- Enjoying very strong growth, mobile gaming is expected to reach beyond the confines of console-based games.
- Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR & AR) promise major changes in the gaming experience, and then some. As proven by the number of companies that are developing VR & AR accessories and applications, each with their own unique approach: Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear, Sony Morpheus, Magic Leap/Google, Microsoft HoloLens…
- Connected objects are already revolutionising the sector with NFC figures that link with games. On the heels of Skylanders from Activision-Blizzard and Disney’s Infinity, Nintendo has entered the fray, while a handful of challengers such as Hasbro and Lego could make trouble for all three.
- The rise of the independent game developer is a sign that things are changing on the upper end of the value chain’s structure, after the upheavals on the lower end, i.e. in distribution and retail sales.
